Day 1:
Arrival in Thimpu
The flight to Paro will give you an introduction to the spectacular beauty
of our country. In clear weather, views of the world’s highest mountains
including Mt. Everest and other magnificent Himalayan snow peaks will give
way to beautiful Paro valley as you land. You will be escorted by Pagan
Nomads’ partner’s representative. Rest at the rustic Paro Lodge.
Day 2: Drive to Thimphu
In the afternoon drive to memorial chorten (stupa) built in the memory of
His late majesty King Jigme Dorji Wangchuk. He is regarded as the father of
Modern Bhutan. Visit the National Library, which holds ancient Buddhist
text, historical books and very famous manuscripts written with gold ink.
Then take a look at the Painting School where traditional art is still kept
alive through instruction in the art of painting, embroidery, carving,
weaving and statue making. Follow it if you wish with a 3-minute drive to
the Traditional Medicine Institute where medicines are prepared from plants,
flowers and animal’s bones according to ancient practices and acupuncture is
its main components and to Lungtenzampa to observe the Royal silver smiths.
Other highlights include a visit to Changangkha Lakhang (monastary), which
was built in 12th century, and get an enchanting view of the whole of
Thimphu town. Our last tour will be to visit the Handicrafts Emporium
followed by shopping for souvenirs.
Day 3: Drive to Punakha
Drive to Punakha via Duchula pass overlooking the high
Himalayas and the lush green valley of Talo and Mendigang, Lunch at Punakha
and sightsee around the town with a visit to the exquisite Punakha Dzong.
Hike for a half hour to the nearest village over a 150-meter suspension
bridge. Overnight at the Hotel.
Day 4: Drive to Wangdi
In the morning drive to Wangdi. This is in another District and is the last
town on the highway before entering eastern Bhutan. Visit Wangdi Dzong and
lunch at Wangdi. Drive back to Thimphu (with enough time for you to do
shopping).
Day 5: Drive back to Thimphu
Day two of sightseeing. Overnight at the hotel to relax.
Day 6: Drive to Paro
In the morning drive to Paro to sightsee throughout the town, then drive to
the ruins of the Drukgyal Dzong 16 kilometers up the valley. A fire burned
it to the ground and it was left in ruins as an evocative reminder of the
great victories over the Tibetans in the 17th century. On a clear day,
experience an unforgettable view of Mt. Jhomolhari (7,314 m). Our next visit
is Kitchu Lakhang (Monastery), which was built in the 7th century. Then we
travel to Ta Dzong, an ancient watchtower, which now houses the National
Museum. Below the museum is the Paro Rimpung Dzong, the center of civil and
religious authority in this valley. A short walk takes you to the base of
the dzong and across a traditional cantilevered, covered bridge. The evening
ends with a walk through Paro's main shopping district.
Day 7: Departure for your Onward Flight
In the morning our representative will bid you farewell at Paro airport.
