Day 1: Saigon
There are no activities planned, so you may arrive at any time.
Day 2: Cu Chi Tunnels
This morning we visit the former guerrilla stronghold at Cu Chi, famous for
the role it played during the Vietnam War. We go underground and explore the
site before returning to Saigon, where the remainder of our time is free for
you to make your own discoveries
Day 3 & 4: Phnom Penh
It’s a long day’s travel by bus to our destination, Cambodia’s capital,
Phnom Penh. After a good night’s sleep we look forward to some free time, to
explore the city. A tour takes us to the notorious Tuol Sleng
Prison Museum
and the Killing Fields of Choeung Ek, both stark reminders of the brutal
Khmer Rouge era.
Day 5: Siem Reap
This morning we take a ‘fast boat’ up the river and across the massive Tonle
Sap Lake,
to Siem Reap. On the way we have the opportunity to view the lakeside
Vietnamese fishing village. The rest of the day is spent exploring the town
before driving out to the Angkor Wat complex, to watch the sunset from Phnom
Bakheng.
Day 6: Angkor
The ancient city of Angkor was the seat of power for one of the largest,
most prosperous and sophisticated kingdoms in the history of South East
Asia. During our day trip to Angkor,
we visit the South Gate of Angkor Thom, Bayon, Elephant Terrace, Baphoun,
Royal Enclosure, Phimeanakas and Terrace of the Leper King. We finish our
day exploring the ‘jewel in the crown’, magnificent Angkor Wat.
Day 7: Siem Reap
The rose coloured Banteay
Srei Temple
is regarded as one of Cambodia’s
best preserved temples. Today is a free day, so there is an option of
visiting the site and also returning to Angkor,
to do some more exploring on your own.
Day 8: Battambang
We cross Tonle Sap again, but this time in a south-westerly direction. It’s
a fascinating experience as we witness floating villages, friendly children
in small boats and fishermen pulling in their morning catch. We continue on
to Cambodia’s
second largest city, Battambang. This interesting place, with its
fascinating marketplace, is waiting to be explored on foot.
Day 9: Battambang/Bangkok
You’re in store for a long and adventurous road journey in local mini-vans
along a dusty and bumpy road to the border town of Poipet. Once we’ve
crossed the border the road improves as we continue on to Bangkok.
Day 10: Bangkok
Our hotel is centrally located, in the heart of one of the exciting shopping
districts in Bangkok. We start off our day with a morning tour, introducing
you to some of the major sights, including the impressive Grand Palace
and Emerald Buddha. The afternoon is at our leisure.
