Phnom Penh to Bangkok
9 days/ 8 nights

Day 1: Phnom Penh
There are no planned activities on this day, so feel free to arrive at any time.

Day 2 : Phnom Penh
In the morning we visit Tuol Sleng Prison Museum and the infamous Killing Fields of Choeung Ek, both gruesome reminders of the terrifying rule of the Khmer Rouge and its leader, Pol Pot. After lunch we have free time to visit some of Phnom Penh’s other important sights, such as the Royal Palace, the sacred Silver Pagoda and the temple of Wat Phnom.

Day 3:Siem Reap
We travel to Siem Reap by ‘fast boat’, crossing South East Asia’s largest freshwater lake, Tonle Sap, and passing a large Vietnamese fishing village on the lake, before transferring by road to Siem Reap. In the evening we drive out to Angkor to watch the sunset.

Day 4: Angkor
Awe-inspiring Angkor is impossible to capture in a few words. Before cutting loose on our own, our local guide will take us on an in-depth tour of the various temple complexes, visiting the South Gate of Angkor Thom, Bayon, Elephant Terrace, Baphoun, Royal Enclosure, Phimeanakas, and Terrace of the Leper King and, as the climax to the tour, fabulous Angkor Wat.

Day 5: Siem Reap
We knew you’d want more so we’ve included another day in Siem Reap. You take an optional return trip to Angkor, on your own, and perhaps visit the rose coloured Banteay Srei Temple, famous for its intricate carvings. Siem Reap Township is small but also worth a look, and is easily explored on foot.

Day 6: Battambang
After again crossing South East Asia’s largest freshwater lake, we make our way to Battambang. There is no ‘fast boat’ this time and our journey can take the most part of a day. We pass floating villages full of friendly waving children and fishermen in small boats pulling in their morning’s catch. After we’ve checked into our hotel in Battambang, it’s time to hit the streets and start exploring this interesting town on foot.

Day 7: Battambang/Bangkok
Whether it’s hot and dusty or wet and muddy, it’ll be a lot of fun, as we take a mini-van along the bumpy road to the frontier town of Poipet. After crossing the border into Thailand the final section of our overland journey is by bus, and we arrive at our Bangkok hotel late in the afternoon.

Day 8: Bangkok
Bangkok is home to some of the most elaborately adorned temples in Asia. It’s also a great place to shop for bargains and the city has a mind boggling array of exotic restaurants and entertaining nightclubs. Our half-day walking tour takes us to some of the city’s best-known sights, including the Grand Palace and Emerald Buddha.

Day 9: Bangkok
Our trip from Phnom Penh to Bangkok ends this morning.
